Umrah Ground Transport Cost Breakdown for 7 and 10 Day Itineraries
Ground transport is the only part of an Umrah budget nobody itemises. The flight has a receipt. The hotel has a rate. The taxis are a guess.
That guess is usually wrong by SAR 500 or even more.
Every "how much does Umrah cost" guide prices the flights and hotels and then waves at transport. This guide does the opposite. It prices every road leg of two real itineraries from one fixed fare list, adds the ziyarat days, divides the totals per person for five vehicles, and compares the result with what a package tour charges for the same legs.

The short answer
A 7 day Umrah that arrives and leaves through Jeddah costs SAR 1,700 in ground transport for a Camry and SAR 2,170 for a Staria. A 10 day Umrah that flies home from Madinah costs SAR 1,600 and SAR 2,020. The longer trip is cheaper because leaving from Madinah removes the longest transfer.
| Itinerary | Camry (3 seats) | Staria (7 seats) | Hiace (11 seats) | GMC Yukon (7 seats) | Coaster (16 seats) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 7 days, out via Jeddah | SAR 1,700 | SAR 2,170 | SAR 2,540 | SAR 2,840 | SAR 4,170 |
| 10 days, out via Madinah | SAR 1,600 | SAR 2,020 | SAR 2,390 | SAR 2,590 | SAR 3,890 |
Every transfer and ziyarat fare in this guide is a fixed per vehicle price from Hujjaj Umrah Taxi, and it includes fuel, tolls and waiting. Three small items are not on that list, so I have marked them as estimates where they appear. Prices are per car, not per person, which is why the next two tables matter more than this one.
Itinerary A, 7 days through Jeddah both ways
Four nights in Makkah, two in Madinah, three long transfers, two half day ziyarat loops. This is the route most first time pilgrims take.
| Day | Journey | Camry | Staria | Hiace | GMC | Coaster |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Jeddah Airport to Makkah hotel | 250 | 300 | 350 | 350 | 600 |
| 2 | Umrah day, no car | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| 3 | Ziarat Makkah tour | 200 | 250 | 300 | 350 | 550 |
| 4 | Masjid Aisha round trip (estimate) | 50 | 70 | 90 | 90 | 120 |
| 5 | Makkah to Medina hotel | 450 | 600 | 700 | 800 | 1,150 |
| 6 | Ziarat Medina tour | 150 | 200 | 250 | 300 | 450 |
| 7 | Medina to Jeddah Airport | 450 | 600 | 700 | 800 | 1,150 |
| Local rides, whole week (estimate) | 150 | 150 | 150 | 150 | 150 | |
| Total | 1,700 | 2,170 | 2,540 | 2,840 | 4,170 |
Days 1, 5 and 7 take three quarters of the money. The Medina to Jeddah Airport fare is quoted on request and I have used the same figure as Jeddah Airport to Medina, because that is what I was quoted both times I asked.
The local rides line is the only one you control after you land. Hotels within walking distance of the Haram in both cities remove it, and the Masjid Aisha run disappears if you do not plan a second Umrah.
Itinerary B, 10 days in through Jeddah and out through Madinah
Six nights in Makkah, three in Madinah, and a flight home from Madinah airport. The extra days go into the cities, where a car is cheap, and the last transfer shrinks from 420 km to 15 km.
| Day | Journey | Camry | Staria | Hiace | GMC | Coaster |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Jeddah Airport to Makkah hotel | 250 | 300 | 350 | 350 | 600 |
| 2 | Umrah day, no car | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| 3 | Ziarat Makkah tour | 200 | 250 | 300 | 350 | 550 |
| 4 | Masjid Aisha round trip (estimate) | 50 | 70 | 90 | 90 | 120 |
| 5 | Rest and prayer, no car | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
| 6 | Masjid Aisha, second run (estimate) | 50 | 70 | 90 | 90 | 120 |
| 7 | Makkah to Medina hotel | 450 | 600 | 700 | 800 | 1,150 |
| 8 | Ziarat Medina tour | 150 | 200 | 250 | 300 | 450 |
| 9 | Quba and Uhud return visit (estimate) | 100 | 130 | 160 | 160 | 250 |
| 10 | Madinah hotel to Medina Airport | 150 | 200 | 250 | 250 | 450 |
| Local rides, whole trip (estimate) | 200 | 200 | 200 | 200 | 200 | |
| Total | 1,600 | 2,020 | 2,390 | 2,590 | 3,890 |
Three extra days and a second Masjid Aisha run still come in SAR 100 to 280 cheaper than the 7 day trip. The whole difference is day 10. A Madinah airport transfer costs a third of the drive back to Jeddah.
All four combinations
Some airlines do not fly the return from Madinah, and some pilgrims do Madinah first. The table below shows all four combinations so you can price whichever one your tickets force on you.
| Trip | Camry | Staria | Hiace | GMC | Coaster |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 7 days, out via Jeddah | 1,700 | 2,170 | 2,540 | 2,840 | 4,170 |
| 7 days, out via Madinah | 1,400 | 1,770 | 2,090 | 2,290 | 3,470 |
| 10 days, out via Jeddah | 1,900 | 2,420 | 2,840 | 3,140 | 4,590 |
| 10 days, out via Madinah | 1,600 | 2,020 | 2,390 | 2,590 | 3,890 |
If you arrive at Jeddah and go to Madinah first, swap day 1 for the Jeddah Airport to Medina fare and the last day for Makkah to Jeddah Airport. The totals land within SAR 50 of the rows above.
Cost per person by vehicle
Every fare is per car, so the cost per person depends only on how many seats you fill. A full Hiace is the cheapest seat on the road. A Camry for one person is the most expensive.
| Vehicle | Seats | 7 day per person, full car | 10 day per person, full car | Per person as a couple |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Camry | 3 | SAR 567 | SAR 533 | SAR 850 |
| Staria | 7 | SAR 310 | SAR 289 | — |
| Hiace | 11 | SAR 231 | SAR 217 | — |
| GMC Yukon | 7 | SAR 406 | SAR 370 | — |
| Coaster | 16 | SAR 261 | SAR 243 | — |
The Staria is the sweet spot for a family. Seven seats, ten bags, and SAR 310 a head for a full week including both ziyarat tours. The GMC costs SAR 96 more per person for the same seats and is worth it only if elderly parents need the ride quality on the Madinah road.
A couple in a Camry pays SAR 850 each. That is the number to compare with a package, because packages are priced per person.
What a package tour charges for the same legs
Package tours I have priced quote the transport element at about SAR 450 to 700 per person for the three transfers on a shared coach, plus SAR 100 to 150 per person for each ziyarat tour. These are the figures agents gave me when I asked them to separate transport from the hotel and flight. They vary by agent and season, so treat them as a guide.
| Group | Package transport, per person | Package transport, total | Private car, total | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Couple | SAR 575 plus 250 ziyarat | SAR 1,650 | SAR 1,700 (Camry) | SAR 50 more for a private car |
| Family of 4 | SAR 575 plus 250 ziyarat | SAR 3,300 | SAR 2,170 (Staria) | SAR 1,130 less for a private car |
| Family of 6 | SAR 575 plus 250 ziyarat | SAR 4,950 | SAR 2,170 (Staria) | SAR 2,780 less for a private car |
| Group of 11 | SAR 575 plus 250 ziyarat | SAR 9,075 | SAR 2,540 (Hiace) | SAR 6,535 less for a private car |
The package coach is priced per seat and the private car per vehicle, so the gap opens with every extra person. A couple breaks even. A family of four saves more than a thousand riyals. A group of eleven saves the cost of two return flights.
What the package price buys that the private car does not is a fixed timetable and a coach that leaves without you. What the private car buys is a 10 pm departure when the children are asleep and a driver at the hotel door.
Four ways to cut the bill without cutting the trip
Each saving is real on its own. Together they take a couple's 7 day transport from SAR 1,700 to about SAR 1,150.
| Saving | How | Camry saving on 7 days | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fly home from Madinah | Replaces the SAR 450 Jeddah transfer with SAR 150 to the Madinah airport | SAR 300 | Anyone whose airline offers the Madinah return |
| Hotels within 500 m of both mosques | Removes every local ride | SAR 150 | Anyone paying by the ride |
| Take the Haramain train to Madinah | Economy seat plus station taxis, about SAR 280 per person | SAR 100 for a couple | One or two people with light bags |
| Skip the second Masjid Aisha run | Combine both Umrahs in one day | SAR 50 | Anyone on the 10 day plan |
The train saving is real for a couple and disappears for a family. At four people a Staria to Madinah at SAR 600 is already cheaper than four train seats plus two station taxis.
What is not in these totals
Three things sit outside the figures above. Tips for drivers, which are not expected but SAR 20 to 50 is normal for a long transfer done well. Rides on hotel shuttles, which are free where they exist and replace the local rides line. And ziyarat outside the standard loops, such as Badr or Taif, which are quoted separately.
Ramadan is the other thing to know. Market fares rise 20 to 40 percent in Ramadan and around Hajj, but the fixed fares used in this guide hold through the year. If your dates fall in those months, a fixed quote in writing before you fly is worth more than any saving in this guide.

- How much does ground transport cost for a 7 day Umrah?
- SAR 1,700 for a Camry and SAR 2,170 for a Staria, arriving and leaving through Jeddah, with a Makkah and a Madinah ziyarat tour included. That covers the whole car. Divided across a full Staria it is SAR 310 per person for the week. Flying home from Madinah instead cuts the Camry figure to SAR 1,400.
- How much does ground transport cost for a 10 day Umrah?
- SAR 1,600 for a Camry and SAR 2,020 for a Staria when the trip ends at Madinah airport, including two Masjid Aisha runs, both ziyarat tours and a return visit to Quba and Uhud. Ending at Jeddah instead adds SAR 300 to 400. Per person in a full Staria it is SAR 289.
- What is the biggest transport cost during Umrah?
- The two long transfers, Makkah to Madinah at SAR 450 for a Camry and Madinah back to Jeddah Airport at the same fare. Together with the arrival transfer they take three quarters of the budget. Flying out of Madinah replaces the SAR 450 leg with a SAR 150 airport run, which is the single largest saving available.
- Is a private car cheaper than a package tour for transport?
- For a couple the two cost about the same, around SAR 1,650 to 1,700 for a week. From four people upward the private car is cheaper, because the package coach is priced per seat and the car per vehicle. A family of four saves about SAR 1,100 and a family of six about SAR 2,800 on a 7 day trip.
- Should I budget ground transport per person or per car?
- Per car, then divide by the seats you fill. Every transfer and ziyarat fare is quoted for the whole vehicle. A Camry carries three, a Staria seven, a Hiace eleven. Budgeting per person first makes a solo trip look cheap and a family trip look expensive, when the opposite is true once the seats are full.
