The Haram zone closes to cars
- Around each prayer, and most of the day in Ramadan and Hajj, roads within about a kilometre of the mosque are closed to every vehicle
- No taxi, app or private car gets closer; the last stretch is on foot
- Your driver drops at the nearest open point for that hour: Jabal Omar, Ajyad or the Kudai side
- Tell us your nearest gate and we pick the drop with the shortest walk
Leave before the Adhan, not after
- Leave 45 minutes before Maghrib and the ride is ten minutes; leave at the Adhan and it can be forty

How taxis actually work inside Makkah

Where a taxi can drop you around the Haram
Around each prayer, and for most of the day in Ramadan and Hajj, the streets within roughly a kilometre of Masjid al-Haram close to every vehicle. Every taxi in Makkah, ours or an app's, therefore drops at one of a handful of points and the rest is on foot. From Aziziyah and Al Naseem the natural drop is the Ajyad side for the King Abdulaziz Gate; from Kudai, Misfalah and Al Awali it is the Ibrahim al-Khalil Road for the King Fahd Gate; from Jarwal, Al Zahir and Al Hijrah Road it is the Al Shamiya side for the Umrah Gate and Al Salam Gate. Tell us your gate and the driver chooses the point with the shortest walk for that hour.
Makkah traffic, hour by hour
The city moves on the prayer clock. The forty minutes before each Adhan are the busiest, the twenty minutes after the prayer ends are the second busiest, and the hour in between is quiet. Leave your hotel 45 minutes before the Adhan and a ride from Aziziyah is ten minutes; leave at the Adhan and it can be forty. Fridays add half an hour around Jumu'ah. Late night and the hour after Fajr are the emptiest roads of the day, which is why so many pilgrims do their errands then.
What changes in Ramadan and Hajj
In Ramadan the closed zone widens, Tarawih and Tahajjud add two more peaks after Isha and before Fajr, and the last ten nights make central Makkah a pedestrian city from Maghrib onward. In Hajj season the authorities restrict private cars on the Mina and Arafat roads and around Jamarat, and only permit-holding pilgrim transport moves freely. How the Masjid Aisha (Taneem) trip works
Masjid Aisha at Al-Taneem is the miqat for anyone already inside Makkah who wants to perform another Umrah. It is 6 km north-west of the Haram on the Madinah road. The driver takes you out, waits while you make wudu and enter ihram at the mosque, and brings you back to the nearest open point to the Haram: about 40 minutes door to door, from SAR 80 for a sedan, with the wait included. Pilgrims who want the wider circuit of sacred sites book the separate Makkah ziyarat taxi instead.
When an hourly driver beats single trips
Two rides a day are cheaper as single trips. Four or more usually are not, and the hour rate also buys something a single trip cannot: the car stays with you, so you enjoy comfort and convenience between stops instead of a fresh wait for a ride. A morning covering a pharmacy, the Kiswa factory, Makkah Mall and a return for Dhuhr is three hours of sedan at SAR 80 an hour, with the bags locked in the boot and the AC running while you pray. Families with elderly parents, and anyone doing all five prayers from an apartment in Aziziyah or Shisha, usually take a day rate instead.
How to give your pickup location
Makkah has several near-identical hotel names and thousands of unnamed apartment towers, so the district matters more than the street. Give the hotel's full name, or for apartments the building name or number, the district, and a landmark (the nearest mosque, mall or tower). Send a WhatsApp location pin if you can; the driver will use that over any address. For hotel pickups after prayer, name the gate you will exit from and we meet you at the closest open point.
