Hajj Travel Packages 2027: Best Guide

1,707,301 pilgrims performed Hajj in 2026, and all of them had to move between the same few sites in about six days.

Hajj 2027 is expected to begin around 14 May. That date is closer than it feels. One missed card or one careless booking can leave you without a ride when you need one most.

I am Rohail Arshad, founder of Hujjaj Umrah Taxi. Saudi Arabia has not yet published the 2027 transport rules, so I used the 2026 season as the best guide to what to expect. Where a rule may change, I say so clearly.

Inside a Hajj Package

A Hajj package is a bundle sold by an approved operator. It normally covers flights, hotels, meals and religious guidance. Transport is where operators differ most, so check each leg in the contract.

Packages are usually sold by hotel level, from economy to 5 star. A closer hotel costs more, but it does not tell you which rides are included. I would ask the questions in this table before paying a deposit.

Check your passport at the same time. The US State Department asks for six months of validity beyond your arrival date and two blank pages. A May 2027 trip therefore needs a passport valid into November 2027.

The Core Days and the Transport Between Them

Pilgrims use the Mashair Metro or a licensed Hajj bus. The metro opened in 2010 and runs only during Hajj, for about seven days a year. Its 17 electric trains each carry up to 3,000 passengers. At 80 km per hour, it covers Mina to Arafat in about 20 minutes.

The core days follow a fixed order. These 2027 dates are expected ones, because Saudi Arabia confirms them after the crescent moon is sighted, and they can shift by a day.

Your operator sets pickup times for each day, so ask for the schedule before you fly. Get it in writing, with a contact number for each day.

Private Taxis and Makkah Permits

A private taxi works before and after the core Hajj days, but only if you hold the right permit for Makkah.

In 2026, entry limits for expatriates and residents without valid permits began on 13 April. The Transport General Authority told all carriers not to take anyone to Makkah or the holy sites without a Hajj permit. A valid work permit or a Makkah residence entry permit was the only other accepted paper.

The ban on carrying visit visa holders to Makkah ran from 1 Dhul Qadah to 14 Dhul Hijjah 1447. Carriers faced fines of up to SAR 100,000, and courts could confiscate vehicles used in a violation. I expect 2027 to bring similar limits, but check the dates once they are announced.

A legitimate company therefore asks for your permit details before it confirms a Makkah pickup. Treat a company that never asks as a warning sign.

Also confirm that the company is Nusuk registered before you book. A company without that registration is not a safe choice for a Makkah pickup.

Taxis still work well for airport transfers, the Makkah and Madinah legs, and ziyarat before or after Hajj. A Hajj visa may also limit you to Jeddah, Makkah and Madinah, so keep your trips inside those three cities. On the core days, plan around the Mashair Metro and your operator's bus.

The Nusuk Card on Hajj Transport

In 2026, the card was your pass for Hajj buses, the Mashair Metro and the holy sites.

The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah assigned each group a time slot and a vehicle through the card system, and groups boarded together. Staff scanned the card at the metro gate, and missing your slot could mean being refused boarding. Ask your service provider when your card will reach you.

Taxi Fares for Makkah and Madinah

On the Hujjaj Umrah Taxi 2026 price list, a sedan from Jeddah airport to a Makkah hotel costs SAR 250. Every fare is fixed per vehicle, not per person, and it covers fuel, tolls and waiting. Prices for 2027 dates are not set yet, so confirm the fare before you book.

All prices are in SAR. On peak dates, a vehicle of the same class may be substituted.

Six Checks Before You Pay for a Hajj Taxi

These checks catch most problems. If one is missing, keep looking:

1. Written confirmation of the fare, pickup time and pickup place.
2. The driver's name and license plate, sent before pickup.
3. A WhatsApp number that answers, so you can reach someone if the driver is late.
4. A vehicle size that fits your group and every bag.
5. A clear answer on what permit details the company needs from you before a Makkah pickup.
6. A pickup time that leaves a buffer for checkpoint queues, especially near Makkah.

Transfers With Hujjaj Umrah Taxi

The routes are Jeddah airport to Makkah, Makkah to Madinah, and Madinah to Makkah with a free stop at the Dhul Hulayfah miqat. Madinah airport to your hotel is covered too, and train station transfers in both cities run on request.

You reserve online with no advance deposit and pay the driver by cash or card on arrival. Your driver's name, photo and phone number reach you on WhatsApp before the trip, and no meter runs. Cancellation is free up to 12 hours before pickup.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I enter Makkah on an Umrah visa during Hajj season?

No. Only a Hajj visa for pilgrims from abroad, or an official permit for domestic pilgrims, allows Hajj. In 2026, Umrah permits on Nusuk were not issued from 18 April to 31 May. Visit visa holders found in Makkah in the restricted period faced fines of up to SAR 20,000. Anyone who entered Makkah illegally to perform Hajj faced deportation and a 10-year entry ban.

How many buses and taxis did Saudi Arabia deploy for Hajj 2026?

Saudi Arabia readied more than 33,000 buses and 5,000 taxis for Hajj 2026, under the Transport General Authority's transport plan. Reports for 2025 gave about 25,000 buses and 9,000 taxis. That means the bus fleet grew while the taxi count fell, and the 2027 numbers are not yet public.

Does the Haramain train run during Hajj season?

Yes. For Hajj 1447, the Haramain railway planned 5,308 trips from 5 May, about 11 percent more than the year before. It offered more than 2.21 million seats, over 210,000 more than the previous season. The line includes a station at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah.

Do the Hajj transport rules apply to Uber and Careem?

Yes. The 2026 permit directive covers all carriers in the Kingdom, so app-based drivers are covered too. They face the same risk of fines for carrying someone into Makkah without the right permit. A last-minute app ride into Makkah is not a safe plan during Hajj season.

When will Hajj 2027 registration open on Nusuk?

Saudi Arabia has not announced an opening date. In late September 2026, Nusuk still showed only the 2026 season. Travel sites estimate account registration from October to December 2026 and package booking around February 2027, based on last year's cycle. Creating an account does not reserve a place.
