Yes, and the visa most Americans pay a middleman to get takes ten minutes on your own phone.

I hold a US passport and have entered Saudi Arabia seven times, five on the tourist eVisa, once on a visa on arrival and once on an Umrah visa through an agent. On the first trip I paid a website nearly double the real fee for the same document. Nobody told me the official portal existed.

The eVisa is not tied to a hotel or transport booking, so you arrange your own airport car. What the Saudi Tourist eVisa Allows American Citizens to Do?

The tourist eVisa allows tourism, family visits, events and Umrah. It does not allow Hajj, paid work or study.

Umrah on a tourist eVisa is the point most Americans miss. You enter on the eVisa, book a free Umrah permit in the Nusuk app for a time slot, and perform Umrah. No separate Umrah visa is needed outside the Hajj season.

How American Citizens Apply for a Saudi eVisa Online?

Apply at visa.visitsaudi.com, the Saudi government portal, and nowhere else. Searching "Saudi visa" and clicking the first result usually lands on a private company charging extra to fill in the same form.

Three things need to be ready before you start.

• A US passport valid for at least six months from the arrival date
• A recent photo on a plain background with the face uncovered
• A card for the fee, which the portal shows in full before you pay

Create an account, fill in the application exactly as the passport reads, upload the photo and pay. The eVisa arrives by email as a PDF, usually within minutes. Save it to your phone, because the airline desk may ask to see it.

Medical insurance is bundled into the fee. Every traveller needs their own visa, including children.

An application that goes to manual review can take a few days. Apply at least a week before travel and hold off on non refundable flights until the PDF is in your inbox.

Third Party Saudi Visa Websites for American Citizens

Sites that offer a "Saudi visa for Americans" submit the same official form on your behalf and add a service fee for doing so. The visa they deliver is the same eVisa from the same portal. Nothing about it is faster or more likely to be approved, and a refused application loses the government fee either way. A family member with the portal open does the same job in ten minutes.

Saudi Visa for American Citizens During Hajj Season

Makkah closes to everyone except Hajj visa holders for about six weeks around Hajj each year. The eVisa is still issued in that window and the rest of the country stays open, but the road into Makkah does not.

Three things move with the lunar calendar, and each needs one action.

• Hajj falls about 11 days earlier every year, so check the current dates on Nusuk before booking flights
• The Makkah closure runs roughly from early Dhul Qi'dah to after Eid al-Adha, so plan Umrah to finish at least a week before it starts
• Umrah visa holders must leave before Dhul Qi'dah, so book the return flight inside that limit

Madinah stays open all year, so Madinah first is the workaround when dates are tight. The Jeddah Airport to Medina transfer takes about four and a half hours, so book it before flying.

A family I travelled with in 2025 had a valid eVisa, paid hotels and a car booked, and could not enter Makkah because their dates fell inside the closure. The visa was never the problem. The calendar was.

Saudi Visa Mistakes That Get American Citizens Refused

Three errors cause most refusals and delays, and each has happened to someone I travelled with.

• A passport with less than six months left, which the portal rejects and the airline will not board
• A name on the application that does not match the passport exactly, and middle names count
• Paying a third party and assuming the visa is processed, instead of checking your own email for the PDF from the portal

Arriving in Saudi Arabia with an eVisa as an American Citizen

Immigration at Jeddah takes about 15 minutes outside peak arrivals. Fingerprints and a photo are taken, the passport is stamped, and you are through to the bags.

The arrivals hall is where the choice you made before flying shows. A pre booked car means a driver inside the terminal with your name and a fare agreed in writing. The taxi rank means a queue and whatever car is next.
